I can’t find ANYTHING on the local news about that pane of glass being knocked loose.  Best I can find is a blog post by a CBS Sports reporter.

Sometimes things look worse than they are.  I don’t know anything about the particular pane of glass that fell on Bruins center David Krejčí, but according to NHL rink rules, the glass must be safety glass and can’t be shorter than five feet along the sides of the rink (end panels eight feet). This is the height above the boards, not the total height of the surround.

Safety glass is generally tempered or laminated glass.  Based on the behavior of the glass in Boston, I’d suspect tempered glass.  As the player was able to wiggle out and stand on his own, I’d also suspect that it wasn’t a very thick piece of glass either.  My guess would be it weighed between 120 and 300 pounds (54 kg – 136 kg for those of you playing at home in the great white north).  Just like floating in a pool allows your weight to be disbursed over a larger area, the pane of glass did not have up to 300 pounds on him at any one point.

It’s unusual, kind of awkward for the player, and embarrassing for the glazier/glazing company but not altogether dangerous.  It’s safety glass for just this reason, mishaps due to over-exuberant fans and players.

In 2009 we took over Republic Glass and Mirror, which was a company that has been in our family for many years, started by the owner’s father.  We had a location off of Highway 67 in Duncaville, then we moved over to Big Stone Gap. We closed down that location in February of 2011, in order to move in to our Willowbrook location. We still serve all of the South Dallas including,  Duncanville, Desoto, Cedar Hill and surrounding areas. Beveled strips are mirror cut in strips, to add to exisiting mirror to give the mirror a framed look, (framed in mirror). It can give your plain mirror an instant update. Alamo Glass will be a major participant in the remodel of the Sheraton Hotel in North Dallas in the coming months.

Our scope of work will involve new storefront, 1/2″ frameless “herculite” style doors, a new butt glass storefront at the main entrance of the hotel with automatic sliding glass doors, solid glass walls and room dividers with custom slumped pattern glass and a custom bronze crinkle mirror designed and produced by UltraGlas in California that will be installed behind the bar.  The main feature of the renovation will be the custom glass stair baluster that we will be installing. The job has just begun and the projected completion date is March of 2012.  We will be posting pictures of our work in the coming months and hope that our customers will be able to stop by the hotel when it reopens to see the quality of work that Alamo Glass & Mirror produces. Please feel free to download and save a copy of the warranty for your product for future reference.  In the unlikely event that there is an issue, please contact us.  We want to make things right when something goes wrong.

An overview of the basics of these warranties:

Shower Warranty

• 2 year warranty on parts, hardware, materials, & labor
• 1 year warranty on vinyl seals
• glass breakage not covered

Mirror Warranty

• 1 year warranty on material & labor
• glass breakage not covered

Insulated Glass Warranty

• 10 year warranty against seal failure (fogging)
• 1 year warranty on labor
• glass breakage not covered

Of course, this is not all the information contained in the warranties so we encourage you to read and familiarize yourself via the links above.

Keep copies of your work order or invoice and the receipt for final payment.  Print out the warranty and staple it with the other paperwork and keep it all together.  Alternately, scan it all to your computer and save it there.  If you use an online e-mail host (Yahoo, Gmail, etc) e-mail it to yourself and save the e-mail.  Then you can print them out as needed in the future.

If you find you need to have us out for a warranty issue, please contact us immediately, especially if you’re near the end of the warranty period.  Unfortunately, after expiration we can only offer repair work at standard prices.
